The Horry-Georgetown Home Builders Association has named Bruce A. Carrell its "1993 Builder of the Year." In presenting the award, Past President James A. Woods noted, "Our 1993 Builder of the Year award goes deservedly to a young man who exemplifies all that we stand for, and strive for, in our associatio...Bruce Carrell."
In accepting the award. Carrell introduced several members of his staff who were present at the meeting: Franky Fowler, Construction Manager; Kim Phillips, Director of Warranty Service; and Susan White, Director of Sales and Marketing and thanked them for contributing to the success of his company, Carrell Homes.
Carrell has been building homes in the Myrtle Beach area since 1987. He began building in Calabash , NC and now, about 150 homes later, Carrell Homes builds from Sunset Beach, NC to Pawleys Island, SC.
An honors graduate of the Indiana University of School of Business, Carrell worked for two years with the Bloomington, Indiana Chamber of Commerce as Director of Industrial Development. He then went into business for himself, opening a recording studio where he wrote and produced radio and television commercials and worked as a professional musician. He moved to Myrtle Beach in 1985 to pursue his music career and worked briefly with a local developer as a superintendent.
While building a home for himself, he developed his plans to start a construction company.In a follow-up interview, Carrell elaborated, "I have always had an interest in home design, and I saw a lot of opportunity in this area to design and build homes. I enjoy the construction side of our operation, but home design will always be my favorite aspect of what we do at Carrell Homes. It is a gratifying experience to work with clients and help them achieve their goals in a new home."
Carrell Homes built 32 in 1993, and Carrell projects they will build between 50 and 60 in 1994. "This is aggressive growth, but we have built a great team of people and continually look for new and better ways to do things. We are all excited about what we plan to accomplish over the next few years," says Carrell.
